Happy 2025! A personal note from the founder of GoutBye

Dear Supporters, Happy New Year!

For another year, I am proud to look at 2024 and see all the people who gave us positive feedback on what we do. This really moves me forward and motivates me to keep collecting, processing with medical personnel, and providing meaningful information to you so you can cope with your gouty arthritis condition. Up to date, 5626 people got our 7-day Gouty Arthritis Diet,, and 3524 people filled the anonymous survey “Do you have Gouty Arthritis”. This means a lot to me!

The articles I come across and the information I read is pretty medical, and once again, I ensure that it is really important to provide folks like you and me with readable information. This is what GoutBye has stood for since its foundation almost 5 years ago. Also, with the years, and thank God with the fading of my flares I realize the simple patterns that work best (at least for me) keep being the following ( I know I sent these past year), but they just work:

  • Drink water. I drink 2-3 litres per day, and I admit it takes a lot of effort to keep up the habit. But the results are awesome. I feel really good, and I believe this is one of the main reasons I stopped getting flare-ups.
  • Ditch sugary drinks, soda, beer, and spirits. Yep, I was an avid beer drinker several years ago. While I might have sounded a bit nostalgic the past year, looking back, I do not regret this decision at all. Beer and liquor seem to be the main gout flare triggers for me.
  • Do some sports or just walk. 10k steps per day can make wonderful changes to your organism. I highly recommend walking.  Personally, I am currently focused on swimming, as it’s the winter season. In 2024, though, I rediscovered spring and summer long walks in the park (we have great parks in Sofia, Bulgaria), and I even tried barefoot, which turned out to be OK for me.
  • Food. As previously said, food is the devil in the details. I realized that food is so complex, and in 2024, I announced that we’re thinking about a permanent, trackable, AI-powered solution to this problem. I will still keep it in secret until is completely developed, but I am excited for something really cool cooking in form of a tool that will help gouty arthritis patients all over the world. For now, keep out for DASH diet and low-purine diets like the one we have on our site. Rely on simpler meals and simpler foods, and avoid fried and heavily processed meats and foods in general. Get to know what foods are good for you and which ones are not.
  • Medication. If your doctor has prescribed you a medication for maintaining your urine acid levels – strive to follow it and combine it with all of the above options. This will reduce gouty flares, flush out the crystals, and help you have a normal life.

Try to follow these, as with the course of the year, I understand that a simple, reliable framework like hydration, nutrition, and good light exercises can make a difference and a permanent positive impact. And while there are any kind of weird advises circulating in the new (like a full carnivore diet for gouty arthritis patients), the simple truth always relies on one simple thing – balance.

What’s coming in 2025?

I am planning to push the content production. It’s really hard. To get a simple article, I need to spend a few days processing information, verifying sources and the particular research, and consulting with a medical reviewer, just to publish something for you. But at the same time, I have some topics I will delve deeper that are from recent researches, touching food and hydration, so stay tuned. I will keep my habit not to ask for donations, only if you decide this is OK with you – you’re welcome. My mission to help is important and I will continue to push this agenda and help to more people.

Stay safe and healthy!

Kind Regards,
Martin Tomov
